BES-Technical provided Design Management and Technical Management services for the delivery of two new T60 accommodation blocks within a Category C prison development. The project formed part of a £40m MEP package and required the coordination of multiple specialist designers, suppliers and stakeholders throughout Stages 4 and 5.
Scope of work
BES-Technical was responsible for the Design Management and Technical Management of Totus Engineering’s supply chain, including:
- DfMA risers, horizontal modules, plant decks and plant skids
- MEP design coordination
- CDP designers including Fire, BMS and MATV systems
- Technical submittals and approvals
- Model integration and coordination with the wider design team
- Stage 4 MATV system design
- Lightning Protection System design
The challenge
The project involved a complex design and delivery environment, with multiple stakeholders, specialist suppliers and stringent government standards and compliance requirements. In addition, evolving project requirements and scope changes required careful coordination to maintain programme and design integrity.
The outcome
Drawing on extensive experience across major projects and regulated environments, BES-Technical provided technical leadership throughout the design process.
The team identified and resolved a range of design issues, supported the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer in addressing MEP-related fire compliance risks, and managed multiple scope changes while maintaining programme objectives.
Through targeted design optimisation, BES-Technical also delivered approximately £1m of savings for Totus Engineering while maintaining compliance with the project’s scope, standards and regulatory requirements.
