BES-Technical provided Stage 2, 3 and 4 high-voltage design services for a new 11kV/400V substation supporting the UTC / Fractures facility. The £10m MEP project required the integration of new HV infrastructure into an existing site-wide electrical network.

- BS EN 50522 earthing study for the new substation
- IEEE Std 1584-2018 Arc Flash Analysis
- Load analysis
- Switch room overheating assessment
- Switch room small power, lighting, HVAC and fire alarm design
- Associated drawings, schedules, schematics and calculations
The challenge
The initial design could not be successfully integrated into the existing site-wide electrical system. In addition, constraints within the existing infrastructure required further investigation to ensure the proposed solution could operate safely and effectively.
The outcome
BES-Technical developed a revised electrical strategy and progressed the design within a challenging programme timeframe.
During the design process, the team identified issues relating to existing site import limits and protection settings. BES-Technical resolved the protection setting issues and provided technical guidance on the actions required to address the site’s import capacity constraints, enabling the project team to move forward with confidence.
