BES-Technical provided Stage 2, 3 and 4 high-voltage design services for a new 11kV/400V substation supporting the development of a new facility within a secure defence estate. The project formed part of a £15m MEP programme and required detailed analysis of the existing electrical infrastructure.
Scope of work
BES-Technical was responsible for:
- HV fault calculations to BS EN 60909
- BS EN 50522 earthing study for the new substation
- IEEE Std 1584-2018 Arc Flash Analysis
- Load analysis
- Switch room overheating assessment
- Associated drawings, schedules, schematics and calculations
The challenge
The project required the integration of new electrical infrastructure within an existing site-wide network. Understanding the capability and limitations of the existing infrastructure was critical to ensuring the proposed development could be supported safely and effectively.
The outcome
Through detailed analysis of the existing electrical network, BES-Technical identified significant constraints within the site’s infrastructure that could impact future development.
The team provided technical recommendations and supporting evidence to help the end client understand the issues and develop a business case for future infrastructure investment, supporting the long-term development strategy for the site.
